Leather Armor is not very good, but it is the best Defense Monks and Thieves can get in Cornelia. The Weight hurts, and in some cases you may actually be better off without it, but unarmored characters tend to take a whole lot of damage from even weak Monsters.

Leather Armor is a slight upgrade over Clothes, and the last real body Armor your mages should even consider wearing. 2 defense isn't very impressive, but Leather Armor is cheap. You'll start off with two sets of it.
