The Cap, like the Gloves, is the only armor of its slot available to most classes for a very long time. It's a cheap 1 Absorb upgrade, and it's better than nothing (though there is a 1-point Evade Penalty). Only FIGHTERS and NINJAS can use head armor with better physical defense. However, given its price and low Absorb, the Cap is a good piece of armor to drop if you need to make room for treasure in a long dungeon.

The Leather Cap is a nice piece of head armor for anyone. 1 defense at the cost of 2 evasion % and with a magic penalty of 2 isn't bad, and the Cap is cheap. You won't find any during the game, so you may as well buy them for anyone who needs one. Keep in mind that they provide no tangible benefit for any character in the back row, however.
