Like the Genji Gloves, the Genji Helm offers a big defensive upgrade and some magic defense at the cost of evasion. It also grants resistance to Matter, which is nice because that includes most of the instant-death attacks your liable to run into. It's super-heavy Armor, but the full set of Genji equipment offers enough defense that it's usually worth using. The only exceptions are against Monsters whose attacks have an additional effect.

The Genji Helmet has the best Defense and Mag.Def of any normal helmet in the game, and everyone can use it. It's a great supplement for a Character that otherwise has some deficiencies in those Areas.
