The Knife is a thrown-only Weapon with unmatched power. Why a Knife should be so powerful is unclear, but what is clear is that it was more amusing in the SNES version of the game when it was called the Spoon instead. That even sort of made sense, as explained by the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

At any rate, this is basically a guaranteed 9,999 damage from Edge, so save it for a battle against the clock (such as Odin) or the final boss. You can only get one.

The Small Dagger is the most accurate Weapon available in Coneria, but it will be obsolete long before the bonus earns any Class a second attack. Even if you're obsessed with Hit Rate, the pitiful damage on the Small Dagger can't be ignored. It is a good Weapon choice for your Bl.MAGE. The other option is to trade 10 Hit Rate for the extra 1 Damage of the Wooden Staff.

The Knife is the most accurate Weapon available in Cornelia, but unless you spend some seriously ridiculous time leveling, the bonus isn't getting anyone a second attack anytime soon. Even if you're obsessed with Accuracy, the pitiful damage on the Knife can't be ignored. It is a serviceable Weapon for your Black Mage, however, if you're willing to trade off 1 damage from the Staff for an extra 10 Accuracy. I know I am!

If you want a really accurate weapon early on, the Knife is where it's at. It's actually one of the most accurate weapons in the game, though it's not terribly powerful. Between the accuracy and low magic penalty, it makes a good weapon for magic users early in the game.
