When you get the Blood Sword, it seems like a terrible weapon. It has the worst stats in the game, with no attack, accuracy, or evasion, and a ridiculous 100 magic penalty. Its only benefit is that it drains a pathetically tiny amount of HP from its victim. A useless weapon that should be thrown away, right?
Wrong! These days, the Blood Sword is the iconic weapon from Final Fantasy II, and for good reason. Yeah, its stats do suck, and it's worthless against most normal enemies. Its drain effect even hurts you if used against Undead. But the key rests in the fact that each hit drains exactly 1/16th of the target's maximum HP. That isn't much for your average enemy, but for bosses with bloated HP totals, it's huge. By definition, this sword can kill anything in the game in 16 hits, and you get two of them. If you want to make your life a whole lot easier, especially against the nasty final boss, keep these swords for your toughest fights. Not only do they do a ton of damage, they heal your fighter while they're at it! (Though keep in mind you only heal the amount drained, not the full damage of the sword.)
There is an argument to be made that the Blood Swords are cheap weapons that you shouldn't use. If you want to beat the game without using them, you can certainly do so. I would recommend against throwing both away, though, because that last boss really is quite unfair. And his attacks drain HP just like the Blood Sword, so it's only fair to fight fire with fire, right?

Wager Drainer
The Drainer deals normal damage which is given to the wielder as healing. However, no single hit can ever do more damage than the wielder needs to heal to full HP, which will severely limit the power of the Drainer. It also has the opposite effect on undead creatures, healing them and damaging the wielder.
