The Mythril Shield is another solid upgrade that you can find before you're likely to buy one. Four extra Defense at no penalty to Evasion (compared to the Iron Shield) is nothing to scoff at.

You will find a number of Mythril Helms throughout the game, but since only Warriors (and Ninjas) can use them, you probably won't need too many. Fortunately they sell for a decent price. As helms go, they make a nice upgrade over the Grand Helm, and should be equipped as soon as possible.

Mythril Gloves are a nice upgrade for your Warrior, improving both Defense and Evasion compared to the Steel Gloves. You can save some money once you reach Crescent Lake by waiting until you find a pair in Mt. Gulg.

Once you get the Mystic Key, you'll inexplicably be rewarded with not one but three Mythril Knives. It's a good Weapon for your Black Mage, but no one else—I wonder if anyone was expecting a party with three Black Mages? If you just want one to equip, the easiest to get is in Castle Cornelia. The other two can be sold for a quick 400 gil each.

When you reach Elfheim, the Mythril Sword is far and away the best Weapon available for your Warrior or Red Mage. So much so, in fact, that you won't find or be able to buy anything better until you reach Crescent Lake (incidentally, the other town that sells this sword). If you want the best raw power possible, save up and buy this Weapon. However, consider just pretending it's not even sold in Elfheim. (It isn't, in future versions of the game.) There are a lot of interesting Weapons that just get tossed by the wayside if you have a Mythril Sword, and the game is a little bit more challenging if you ignore it.
Of course, once you reach Crescent Lake, it is well worth investing in this sword, even if you will find better Weapons soon enough in Mt. Gulg and the Ice Cavern.

The Mythril Hammer is a long-overdue Weapon upgrade for your White Mage. It isn't a huge step up from the normal Hammer sold in Cornelia, but it does add 5 Accuracy that is sorely needed. It is most easily found in the Elven Castle after receiving the Mystic Key. You can buy more in Crescent Lake, but unless you have multiple White Mages, it is unlikely that you will want to.

Like other axes, the Mythril Axe gives up Accuracy in favor of Attack, though by the time you find one in Mt. Gulg, your Warrior may be level 16, at which point he is not giving up any hits using it. Whether to use it in favor of the Mythril Sword is up to you. In any case it is probably not worth buying one of these in Crescent Lake unless you have multiple Warriors.

Silver Armor is a nice piece with very low Evade penalty for its Absorb. It's not strong enough to be useful for a FIGHTER, but any RedMAGE will be happy for the upgrade. You can find a suit in the Dwarf Cave Treasure vault long before you reach Crescent Lake where it is sold. It is quite valuable if you decide to sell it.

The Mithril Mail is a solid upgrade for anyone that can use it. The Mag.Pwr bonus of the White Dress may be preferable for the ladies, but the men who can wear Mithril Mail will generally get good use out of it.
