BANE is your very first KO Spell, and it's not bad. It is fairly accurate and hits multiple targets, though many Monsters resist Poison. BANE is most useful against Monsters with a lot of HP, as the chance of success starts to outweigh the typical damage dealt by attack Spells. Most enemies have high Magic Defense by the time level 5 Spells become available, so don't expect BANE to ever have a great success rate.

Poison is your very first KO Spell, and it's not bad. It is fairly accurate and hits multiple targets, though many Monsters resist it. It's a great Spell for taking out large groups of enemies with low Magic Defense. But as with all KO Spells, it's risky since if you miss it will do nothing. You will find the Venom Blade, a sword capable of casting Poison for free, in the Flying Fortress, at which point the Spell becomes a whole lot more fun.

Poison is cheap to cast, can do more damage than the basic Elemental Spells for less MP, and inflicts the Poison Status. The downside of this Spell is that it can only target one enemy at a time. Also, by the time you can learn it, you'll be moving on to tier-2 attack Spells anyway.
