The Flame Sword is not nearly as powerful as the Ice Sword found in Gurgu Volcano, making it pretty useless as a primary weapon. If elemental weapons actually worked in the NES version of the game, it would have some use, but instead it's a potential RedMAGE weapon at best.
The Ice Armor is basically the same as the Flame Armor, except that it resists Fire instead of Cold. It is useful to give one character the Ice Armor and Flame Shield (or the Flame Armor and Ice Shield) to grant them resistance to both Cold and Fire.
The Ice Shield is the Fire-resistant version of the Flame Shield. Give it to someone wearing the Flame Armor to maximize your elemental resistances.

The Ice Brand is a huge upgrade over the Mythril Sword and Mythril Axe, both in terms of Attack and Accuracy. Not only that, but its Ice-elemental attack makes it even more effective against many enemies in Mt. Gulg. Though found first, the Ice Brand is significantly more powerful than the Flame Sword, and should be used in its place unless fighting an enemy the Flame Sword is specifically strong against. It also makes an excellent weapon for your Red Mage, potentially granting them a third attack before any other weapon. Just for good measure, you'll find a second Ice Brand in the Citadel of Trials.

The Ice Brand is a fantastic new sword, significantly more powerful than the Flame Sword. Sadly you get it after you've already fought the Fire Gigas, but it's still a solid basic-use sword until you find the Defender in the Cyclone.
