The Bomb Summon is actually quite good, as it is effectively a single-target version of the Mist Dragon for half MP. However, unlike most summons, it's not dropped by every member of the Bomb family. In fact, normal Bombs don't drop it at all! The only place you'll be able to find Balloons and Grenades at the end of the game is the Moon, so good hunting.

Bomb show up with half HP, but heal themselves whenever they hit your party. Your best bet is to kill them as quickly as possible, as they tend to explode for large damage if you fail to do so. Self-Destruct deals damage proportional to how much HP the Bomb has remaining, so even if it's too late to kill them, you should concentrate your attacks on any that are Self-Destructing. An Ember Ring on your party leader is a wise investment in case things go badly. Note that you won't get CP from Bomb that Self-Destruct.
