Cockatrices have low HP and Defense, and only 1 Attack. So what's the big deal? Their attacks turn their victims to Stone. Combined with their high Evasion, this makes cocktrices some of the more annoying enemies you will run into, especially if you don't have a supply of Gold Needles. In large groups, it is worth taking them out with Spells in most cases. Saving Spell slots is important, but this is one of the enemies you save them for.

Pyrolisks are incredibly weak foes that are easily killed, but they have a Gaze attack that causes instant KO. It's not particularly accurate, but they should still be taken out quickly before they have a chance to use it. While they are not weak to Lightning, Bolt2 should be perfectly sufficient to take out any number of them. Ice2 works even better if you don't need to conserve level 4 Spell slots.

Cockatrices are much hardier than their incarnations in the previous game. Their attacks still turn you to Stone, and they get four of them, so evasion is a must. It is well worth leveling your Esuna Spell so it can heal Stone at this point if you haven't already. The Demon Spear or Wing Sword works well against them, as does Aura.
