As Commandos go, Snow is pretty effective, lacking only the Lifesiphon and Faultsiphon Abilities. It can be difficult to actually use him as a Commando much earlier in the game, since he's so effective as a Sentinel, but he'll get the job done. His Sovereign Fist Ability clears the chain gauge and deals massive damage, so it's best used near the end of an enemy's stagger period (and preferably with a Genji Glove equipped).
Snow has the same strengths and weaknesses as a Medic as Sazh—no Raise (which is no big deal) and eventual access to Curasa (which is very important when dealing with the most dangerous enemies). If you're actually going to use the Salvation paradigm (MED/MED/MED), make sure you're Characters who can at least cast Curasa.
Snow is the complementary Ravager to Sazh, gaining access to all tiers of Blizzard and Water spells but lacking Fire and Thunder (including the related -strike Abilities). Snow does get Vigor, but lacks Aeroga, which is a powerful crowd control spell. By having access to only two Elements (and the first two tiers of Aero), you have to pay attention to an enemy's weakness before using Snow as a Ravager.
Snow's Saboteur is the complement to Lightning's, as he lacks the defense-lowering debuffs Deprotect, Deshell, Poison, and Imperil, but has full access to single- and multi-target versions of Slow, Curse, Daze, Fog, and Pain. Also like Lightning, he lacks access to Dispel. If you're fighting an enemy with powerful offensive abilities, Snow can be very effective, but he won't help you deal much damage against them.
Snow is the prototypical Sentinel, gaining every Ability except Elude. Snow's job is to stand there and take punishment. While he has the same Ability list as Fang, Snow is a bit better as a Sentinel because of his high HP total and access to Weapons with the Improved Guard and Improved Ward abilities.
