You'd never guess that FADE is actually the iconic series Spell Holy, between the name and its nature as a multi-target Spell. FADE is similar to NUKE in that it's highly accurate and non-elemental, though it deals 20% less damage. Unfortunately, attack magic just isn't that effective late in the game, and unlike Bl.Wizzes, Wh.Wizzes have worthwhile level 8 Spells. Still, it's fun to use in a pinch, and isn't a bad Spell by any means.

Flare is the ultimate damaging Spell, which is a bit sad, because it's not actually that great. It has maximum Accuracy, which still makes it unreliable against Monsters with very high Magic Defense (which is most of those you'd like to use it on). Even on an unresisted hit, Flare only averages 300 damage, which your fighters most likely surpass on a normal attack. It's a nice Spell for softening up large groups of relatively weak enemies, but unlike in later games, it's pretty useless against bosses. It's still the best Spell of its level, though, so don't miss it if you have a Black Wizard.

Flare is a powerful attack Spell, with double the base power of the normal elemental Spells. It strength is the same as its weakness—it is non-elemental. Nothing resists or absorbs Flare, but nothing is weak to it either. Because intelligence plays such a heavy influence on the effects of attack Spells, especially late in the game when Flare is available, Flare is just not that much better than elemental Spells (and isn't even close against Monsters weak to their Element). Then again, if you level it up it is the best attack Spell against a Monster with no weaknesses, so it's still worth using.
