The Ancient Sword is a very useful weapon in the mid-game, especially if you don't have the Berserk Spell to cut through tough bosses' defense. Curse halves attack, but more importantly halves defense. The Ancient Sword is powerful, but horribly inaccurate, so you will not likely want to use it as your main weapon, but keep it on hand for tough meatwagon-type foes.
