Gordon's HP, MP, and skills make him seem like a waste of space, but his basic stats are actually quite high. Because he has no skill, you can give him whatever weapon you wish, or even make him into a spellcaster. Kashuan Keep is not the time to be leveling spells, though, so fighter is probably your best bet. However, it may be worthwhile to give him a spell (perhaps Cure, from the Tome in Kashuan Keep) and let him gain MP at least once. With his 22 magic, his total will immediately jump to a respectable 27. Keep in mind you'll need to visit an inn to actually restore this MP, but it's still useful.
