Odin is a very tough foe, and fortunately you don't actually have to defeat him. You will charge his gestalt gauge with healing Abilities, but simply surviving isn't enough to win. You need to take advantage of lulls in his attack (especially when he uses Ullr's Shield), and keep up a chain while healing as much as possible. His attacks are devastating, so defensive items such as Silver Bangles, Spark Rings, or Black Belts can be a huge help. If you fail, play with your paradigm deck and equipment and try again. This is more of a puzzle than a fight, so keep at it until you're victorious.

Odin likes to use his powerful Zantetsuken attack repeatedly. This fight is a race against the (very fast) clock. You might not be able to win when you can first reach Odin, though there are non-standard paths to victory. A party of Dragoons using Jump can be quite effective. Defeating Odin grants you the ability to summon him.

Odin is the sole Esper capable of increasing a Character's Speed at Level up. This is a powerful Attribute to boost. However, Odin can be upgraded to Raiden almost immediately after you first obtain his magicite. If you want to exploit Odin's Speed boosts, it's best to hold off on that exchange for a time.
