The Scimtar is an excellent and cheap Weapon for your THIEF, as well as a good stopgap Weapon for FIGHTERS and RedMAGES until they get a Short Sword. However, ElfLand offers the Sabre for 450 gold, a Weapon that sacrifices 5 Hit Rate to deal 3–6 more damage per hit. That is a significant damage increase and cannot be overlooked, so if you have a lot of money, don't hesitate to skip right to the Sabre. (This doesn't apply to the FIGHTER, who will get an extra attack with the Scimtar or Short Sword at levels 5–6.)
