The Broadsword is the most powerful sword in Pravoca, and one worth picking up since the only thing better in Elfheim costs 4,000 gil! This sword is a no-brainer for Red Mages, but it has to be weighed against the Battle Axe for Warriors. The Battle Axe does 1–2 extra damage at the cost of 5 Accuracy, but those points of Accuracy will earn a Warrior a second attack at levels 5–6. Outside that range, the Battle Axe is most likely superior, but at those levels this weapon is liable to see a lot of use. Note that if you're trying to save money, you can find a Broadsword in the Marsh Cave, though I don't recommend waiting this long.

The Short Sword is the most powerful sword in Pravoka, and one worth picking up since the only thing better in ElfLand costs 4,000 G. This sword is a no-brainer for RedMAGES, but the Hand Axe offers more Damage at the same price for a FIGHTER. However, the Short Sword's 5 extra Hit Rate will grant a FIGHTER an extra attack at levels 5–6, and is generally a better investment than +1 Damage. If you can wait until the Marsh Cave, you'll find a free Short Sword in a chest on B2.

Swords are not the most accurate weapons, and the Broadsword is no exception. It's more accurate than an Axe, but less accurate than a Javelin. What the Broadsword really has going for it, though, is that Firion begins the game with one. It's a pretty good weapon for the early game.
