At the start of the fight, the Guard Scorpion spends half its rounds using Search Scope for no effect except telling you who will be targeted by the next attack. Then it uses either its dangerous Rifle attack or less frequently its more dangerous Scorpion Tail (which is used exclusively once you've dealt 400 damage). Bolt is effective despite its high Magic def.
