After the opening cutscene, you'll be in control of Cecil in the castle. You'll want to eventually make your way to the top of the west tower, but don't miss the three Treasure chests in the main hall. You can open the door to the room by hitting the switch on the nearby wall. Once you're done, head to bed. Your quest begins, alongside Kain, in the morning.
When you return here as a Paladin, the castle will be mostly empty. You can visit Cecil's room for free healing, but you will fight Baigan and his Right and Left Arms in the main hall. You can kill Baigan's arms pretty easily, but if you destroy both, he will restore them. Baigan casts Wall on himself in response to magic, so it's very difficult to hit him with Spells. Make that first one count! Bouncing Spells off your own Wall is unpredictable since the Spell might hit an arm. Bersk is similarly risky.
Afterward, you can collect the various Treasures on the east side of the castle, or proceed to the throne room to face Cagnazzo. You may want to return to Cecil's room before doing so. Note that Palom and Porom will leave the party immediately after the fight, so if you want to keep their gear, you'll have to have them battle naked (so to speak).
This fight is much more straightforward than the one with Baigan. As a turtle, Ice is Cagnazzo's usual weakness, but when he surrounds himself with water, you'll want to use Lightning instead. Not only will it deal plenty of damage, it will dispel the water and prevent his nasty Wave attacks. If he starts using "turtle defense," that's the time to hit him with Ice. Remember that Tellah has tier-3 Black Magic available. This is a good fight to make Cecil and Yang Berserk, as well. After the fight, Cid will join the party, and bring an airship with him!
Once Cagnazzo is defeated, you can speak to the King's spirit in the basement of the east tower.
Much later on you'll be able to speak to Cid's men and have them attach a hook to the Enterprise. This will allow you to transport the hovercraft, giving access to Cave Eblan and the Adamant Grotto.
Your final task in Baron is to fight Odin, which you can only do after you've been to the Cave of Summons. Odin is a fierce foe who will basically kill the party after a short time limit. Make sure you save before fighting him! It is difficult to win without Kain, and there's really no rush since Odin isn't the best summon anyway. When you do fight him, use Lightning—Bolt Spells, Bolt Arrows, Blitz, whatever. Cecil should use a Bacchus and be wielding the Excalibur for best results.
