Statistically, the Buckler is a small Absorb boost for a lot of money. The advantage is that it is the only shield usable by THIEVES and RedMAGES. Don't save up for it, but if you have the money, it is a worthwhile investment.

Even the most basic shield in the game isn't bad. 4 points of evasion per shield level is nothing to scoff at, though it won't override your Armor's evasion penalties just yet. It's certainly better than nothing, though. Importantly, wielding a shield allows Characters to raise their shield levels.
