Don't even think about entering Shadow Guard without the Ring. The forcefields deal 1,000 damage per step unless you have the Ring, and you can't possibly survive them long enough to defeat Minax.
As you'd expect, Minax's castle is filled with nasty monsters. Interestingly, only a few of them will attack to begin with, though all the monsters will attack the moment you do. For the most part, the enemy ranks aren't as impressive as you might expect, with one major exception: one of the Balrons in Minax's chamber is invincible.
Minax deals 100 damage each time you take a step within 3 squares of her, and takes at least 4 hits to kill, so she's no cakewalk. She will teleport from chamber one to chamber two and back each time you hit her. That invincible Balron will likely kill you as you trek back and forth unless you do something about him. Your best bet is to lead him into one of the side rooms (I suggest the Museum), then use a Strange Coin with the Negate Command to freeze him and run away. If you play your cards right, he will be trapped in that room, unable to escape unless you run past the entrance to the room. (So don't do that!)
You can extend this strategy to other monsters in the castle as well. As long as you take the middle horizontal hallway between the two chambers, no monster in any of the central rooms will be able to escape. Once you clear out the few monsters who can reach you, you just need to hit Minax, then head to her other chamber and do it again. She has 255 HP, so the better the Weapon and more Strength you have, the quicker the fight will be. It's worth noting that you do not need the Quick Sword to damage Minax, though it does deal slightly more damage than the Phaser.
