As with the other level 8 summons, Bahamut will repeatedly use an unresistable attack and your goal is to defeat him before you perish. Bahamut resists all Elements, too, so it's tough to kill him quickly. However, the Bahamut summon is a worthy prize.

Your only real chance to defeat Bahamut is to use Wall on as many party members as possible to block his MegaFire attack. Provided you keep Wall up, this is a fight you should not lose.

The Baham summon is usually Rydia's best option as an offensive Spell. It's relatively cheap for the damage it deals, and the damage is non-elemental so nothing resists it. The only real "balance" to this Spell is that it's optional, but it's well worth getting.

Bahamut teaches the Mag.Def-ignoring Flare Spell (at ×2;!) and its Sun Flare summon is similarly Mag.Def-ignoring but hits all targets. Add in a +50% HP bonus at Level up, and you have one of the best Espers in the game.

Your goal in this fight is to balance offense with defense—Bahamut has a nasty combo attack that he will use regularly. The optimal solution is to have Fang use her Sentinel Abilities while Vanille and Lightning pound on Bahamut from afar, but because of the area of his attack, this is hard to achieve. It also pays to inflict some debuffs when you get an opening. Do your best to keep everyone alive, and don't forget that you have Renew as a backup plan. If all goes well, you should fill the gestalt gauge with time to spare.
