On the path to the Sylphs' home, you don't need Float, because you can walk through the wall to collect the Elixir. You'll find Yang, as well as two of his claws, in the house. Speaking to Yang the first time enables you to get the Pan from his wife in Fabul (once you have access to the overworld again). Bring it here and use it on him to have Rydia learn the Sylph summon. Then bring it back to his wife to get the Knife, the ultimate throwing Weapon!
The path to the Treasure cache is a lot more complicated. You can shorten your initial trip a bit by walking through the wall to the west. You can collect the third chest by walking through the wall to the east of them. The Fairy Rod is a great upgrade for Rydia. After collecting the chests, return to the stairs but walk through the east wall, working your way up to a new set of stairs.
You'll come here one last time, entering a long hall filled with glowing squares. Walk through the west wall at the end to find a teleporter to the Treasure area.
