Hellhounds can do decent damage with their normal attack, and also have a Blaze Special Attack that deals a small amount of Fire damage to the whole party. Beyond that, they are a fairly standard enemy with a decent number of HP but low Defense. For some reason, you cannot run from Hellhounds when they are paired with Ogre Mages. Hellhounds on their own are fairly likely to surprise the party, soaking up HP with their Blaze attacks.

Hyenadons first appear with Ogres, who they are similar to (though a bit more dangerous) statistically. You will see them guarding a number of chests in the Terra Cavern with Ogre Chieftans and Ogre Mages, both of whom are a bit harder to kill. Ogre Mages should be taken out first, but the Hyenadons are your second priority. This combination is a relatively common encounter on the upper floors of Mt. Gulg.
