Wh.MAGES are the premier healers in the game, as well as the best Class at dealing with groups of Undead due to their exclusive HARM Spells. They are halfway decent attackers early in the game, but don't stay that way for long. Their Armor selection is abysmal, and they should be kept at the bottom of the party at all times. If your Wh.MAGE goes down, you have a serious problem. It's worth noting that they are the only pre-upgrade Class who can cast LIFE.

Weary of healing, this champion of divinity has forsaken cures, and here knows only to strike.

The Devout is simply an upgraded White Mage. They have more MP, an extra level of Spells, and a higher Mind score. There's no reason to go back to a plain old White Mage once you have the Devout.

White Magic LV. 1–7
Very early in the game, before hitting 16 Mind (and thus a ×2 Magic Multiplier) at level 9, a White Mage isn't really any better than a Red Mage at casting magic. However, as time goes on this will become an important Job for most of the game, until it is replaced by the Devout. Several other Jobs can use low-level White Magic, but no one comes close to the White Mage when it comes to emergency healing.
Porom is a standard White Mage much like Palom is a standard Black Mage, though her unique ability, Cry, is not nearly as good as Bluff. What does it do? It makes it easier to run away. Yep, that's exciting. On the upside, Porom will be a more than satisfactory healer by level 13, and can use Twin with her brother.
Rosa is an interesting Character. As a White Mage, she functions primarily as a healer, but due to her Aim ability, she is a fine archer as well. Early in the game, there's no reason not to use bows, but later on you'll start to find staffs with significant bonuses to Will that will enhance her spellcasting. It is generally preferable to have both options available depending on the situation. Pray is a nice ability to use when Rosa has nothing better to do, since it will (sometimes) grant a small bit of healing to the party, absolutely free.
