The Light Axes are not going to replace your normal Weapons, even when you first get them, but they do have two nice effects that are worth noting. The first is that they are powerful against Undead, more powerful in fact than the Ice Brand (though make sure the loss of 10 Accuracy does not take away one of your attacks per round). More importantly, the Light Axes cast Dia2 when used as items. Most Undead are fairly low on HP, so a casting of Dia2 from each of the two Light Axes found in the Sunken Shrine will take out most groups of them (especially with the addition of the Mage's Staff).
