Kraken has eight powerful attacks that can really do a number on the lightly-armored members of your party. Even your Knight can feel the hurt from these attacks. Fortunately, Kraken has no special resistance to Slow, so that is an effective tactic. He will try to Blind your party with Ink 1/4 of the time, and you should be thankful for the reprieve. Be ready with Lamp Spells, or better yet, lend your best melee fighters any Ribbons you may have to keep them hitting accurately. Like all bosses, Kraken's defenses are high, and you should use all available buffs to break through them. Kraken is weak against Lightning, so Bolt3 is somewhat effective as well once your nukers are done buffing.

Kraken's only new trick the second time around is an ill-advised obsession with Bolt2. Hey, if the guy wants to cast a crappy Spell your party almost certainly resists instead of making 8 nasty attacks, who am I to argue? Between Bolt2 and Ink, Kraken will attack less than half the time, which is good news for you. Not only does he get more attacks than Marilith, each one does more damage. Even your Knight can't take much from Kraken this time around. Shld2 will help a bit, but the best defense in this case is definitely a good offense. Now's a good time to start using Haste if you haven't already, because one stray hit against your Life-casting character can spell doom for your entire run.
This regal Fiend of Water has a penchant for sinking things with its tentacles.
