HYDRAS make three powerful attacks that can deal serious damage to lightly-armored characters. SLOW is an good defense. HYDRAS have a lot of HP but only middling Absorb, so physical attacks are effective. They lack the resistances of other River creatures, and either FIR3 or ICE2 will deal significant damage.

Fire Hydras are actually weaker than normal Hydras, physically. However, they have a Blaze Special Attack that is nearly as powerful as the Fire2 Spell. Fortunately they only appear on their own in Mt. Gulg, and can be taken out quickly. You may want to cast NulFire to protect those characters lacking Ribbons when you run into groups of Fire Hydras later in the Flying Fortress, however.
