With 6 HP, no Defense, and only 12 Evasion, you can expect that any attack made against a Pirate will likely kill it. Because you fight 9 of them at once, make sure you spread out your attacks. Sleep1 and Fog can both make this fight a bit easier, but it's not actually difficult to begin with. The best part about fighting the Pirates (aside from getting a ship) is that they drop a good chunk of gil! If only these were random enemies.

Privateers are the ocean encounter you most want to see. They drop a lot of gil this early in the game, and aren't particularly hard to take out. They're also the only ocean enemy lacking a high Evasion score, which is a nice change. Their Attack is dangerous, but they're worth the effort of killing.

PIRATES are trivially easy to kill. The only trick is to make sure you have each Light Warrior target a different PIRATE. Spells like SLEP or DARK are highly effective, but not necessary to win the fight. You'll earn the SHIP and 360 Gold for defeating all 9 of them.

Man, Leila really underestimated your party if she thought eight of these guys was going to stop you. At this point they'd have trouble even damaging your armored fighter, and they can't stand up to any kind of attack. Take them out however you like, and celebrate ownership of your own ship!
