Darkness is an annoying Status Ailment, and LAMP is the only way to cure it short of CUR4. However, it may not be worth the level 2 Spell slot, especially considering the other level 2 white magic Spells that are available. You won't encounter Darkness until the Marsh Cave, and it will wear off at the end of combat, so don't feel obligated to learn LAMP.

BLND is another "power word" Spell like STUN, meaning that it works only on Monsters with less than 300 current HP who don't resist Status. The upshot of BLND is that it won't wear off, but at the same time, the effects are very minimal for a 7th-level Spell slot. If you have money to burn, it's not the worst level 7 black magic Spell, but it's far from necessary.

Darkness not only reduces Monsters' chance to hit, it also increases your chance to hit them. Still, it's only a 20% swing, so don't expect this Spell to negate all damage unless you use it on already-inaccurate Monsters. It's a good opener when fighting large groups, or Monsters who make a lot of attacks. The only downside is that many Monsters resist Status-elemental Spells, including Fog.

Blind is a decent Status Spell because it is surprisingly accurate, even if its effects aren't quite as dramatic on Monsters as they are on you (since Monsters don't care about leveling). You can find these dropped by Ogre Mages, or find them in chests on the Tropical Island. It's not a fantastic Spell, but it's not terrible by any means.
