The central Cardian Isles and the Citadel of Trials areas make up this area, which introduces no new enemies, but features a number of nasty encounters. The Weretigers and Sabretooths can quickly wear down your HP, while the Sphinxes can frustrate the party with their high Evasion. Most of the other encounters are things you've seen before. This is the also easiest place in the game to find Basilisks.
