When Crono wakes up in Prison, he'll be locked in a cell with few amenities. You can drink from the mug to restore your HP and MP, or use the save point. There will also be a bag on Crono's bed containing up to six Ethers, depending on how the trial went.
You have two options here. You can bang on the bars until the Guards attack, and escape the Prison alone, or you can wait until Crono's execution, at which time Lucca will save him. The latter option is easier, since Lucca will be in the party, but the escape isn't too hard in either case.
Escape is simple, but finding all of the Treasures in the Prison requires you to be thorough. Crono's cell is on the west side of the lowest level of the Prison. On the east side is a Treasure room with a Guard posted. You can fight the Guards in the Prison, but if you get behind them without them seeing you, you can simply knock them out as well.
The west side of the Treasure room contains a Decedent and another cell you can't enter. The execution chamber, where you will begin if you don't escape on your own, is on the east side. In this chamber, you can take Mid Tonics from any Guards you knock out. Don't forget to free Fritz, as well.
Take the upper path to reach the third floor, where there is another set of cells (with a chest containing a Shelter) on the west side. The cells on the fourth floor are the real key to finding the best items in the Prison. A hole in the wall of the western cell leads outside the tower, where you can climb to the second floor cell that you couldn't enter earlier. It contains only a Shelter, but there is a hole in the floor to climb down to the cell next to Crono's, which contains 1,500 G and a Lode Sword.
On the fifth and final floor, you'll find a fallen officer and a save point. Check the officer for five Mid Tonics, and save before your encounter with the Dragon Tank.
The Dragon Tank is a fierce foe, because the Head resists what magic you have available, and heals the Tank as a whole. Kill it first with basic attacks, having Lucca heal as necessary.
