You'll need the Jewel of Open to access this Area. The right side of the large vertical area is a shaft you can fall down, while the left side can be climbed but is filled with Spear Guards and Bone Archers.

You'll find Scylla on the right side of the Area. You can break an ice block on the ground outside of her area to proceed further down. You'll need the Merman Statue to proceed in this area, however.

To find the Merman Statue, head the other way. You'll have to jump off a waterfall, so if you want to return you'll need to go back to the Marble Gallery. In the meantime, you can leave via a new doorway to the Entrance Area.

When you do return, ride the second ferry to earn the Holy Symbol, which allows you to enter water without taking damage. (It makes more sense when you see that the Holy Symbol is actually a snorkel.)

Once you can fly, you can reach the side path from the main shaft, where you'll find the Gold Ring. You can also reach the Herald shield, which will add a Skeleton Ape to the previous passage. Use his flaming barrel to destroy the bridge to reach the Abandoned Mine.

Because there's nothing vital in this Area early on, you may want to wait until you have the ability to transform into a Bat to explore the Area, just to speed up exploration.
