Sleep1 puts all enemies to Sleep, though any enemy with at least 80 max HP (which is most of them outside the beginning of the game) will always wake up on their next turn. Even so, they will lose that one turn, so Sleep1 is never completely useless. Early in the game it is a fantastic way to deal with large groups of weak enemies. Focus on anyone who wakes up to minimize the number of attacks you're receiving.

SLP2 may seem like a bizarre Spell at first—after all, SLEP affects all foes and SLP2 only affects one. The difference is, SLP2 is 20% more accurate, and non-elemental. Effectively it's the same as SLEP, only it acts like any enemy you cast it on is weak against Status magic. Of course, sleeping Monsters will still wake up immediately, and unless the target you're fighting resists Status, HOLD is usually a better overall Spell.
