Veldt Encounter Tool

This tool will help you visualize Veldt Encounters and plan out the collecting of new Rages. Please read the detailed description below carefully to fully understand this tool and maximize its helpfulness.

By default, this tool will show all possible Veldt Encounters and all possible Rages learned from them. In this state, it can be a useful reference for the Veldt as a whole. However, you can get substantially more value out of this tool if you enable checkboxes for the Encounters and Rages tables. To do this, click those links (or find these tables on any other page), then click the checkbox in the upper left corner of the table. Once this is done, a checkbox will be added as the first column of every row of these tables across the site. Check off when you've seen an Encounter or learned a Rage, and this page will reflect that.

A quick note about checkboxes. They are tracked most effectively if you create a login for the site. Even if you do not, a virtual login will allow you to track checkboxes via cookies. This means that you will not be able to retrieve this data on other browsers or other devices. Also note that, login or not, I am not interested in tracking any of your user data, nor do I. Nonetheless I understand perfectly if you are not comfortable creating an account, and I hope to find a good client-side solution for checkboxes and other 'user' features in the future.

The Veldt uses a list of "groups" which determines the Encounters you might run into at any given time. You will generally see one Encounter in each group, with the group number advancing by one at the end of each battle. You can only fight Encounters you've seen before (you don't need to win the Encounter). Groups with no valid Encounters will be skipped entirely. The "Advance" button will simulate this transition between groups. The group will be incremented instead by 13 when you reload the game, so the "Advance—Reload" button can simulate that as well. In addition, the groups that you will transition to by either advancement method are noted.

If Encounter checkboxes are enabled, the display of Encounters will change. Encounters you have not seen will be dimmed, though you will be able to check the encounter checkbox via this page if you want. Any Veldt group with no checked Encounters will be passed over by the advancement system. Note that, checked or not, you can click on the box for any given encounter to highlight it and advance (or retreat) to it. This is helpful if you see an Encounter on the Veldt that you missed checking earlier.

Each Encounter also lists all available Rages that can be learned from it. You will learn any of these that Gau does not already know if you use Leap during an encounter. You will even learn the Rages of Monsters you've already killed that were originally part of the Encounter. You also learn the Rages of all Monsters that were present in an Encounter where Gau rejoins the party. You do not learn any Rages if you attack Gau and he flees.

If Rage checkboes are enabled, the tool will dim the names of any Monsters whose Rages have been checked, and note Encounters that Gau can learn no new Rages from. In addition, a checkbox will be available for each encounter that will check off every Rage available in that encounter. (You cannot uncheck this version of the checkbox.) Note that the SNES version of FFVI has several Rage bugs, so this data will not perfectly reflect later, corrected versions of the game.

I recommend highlighting any Encounter (by clicking on it) whenever there is a chance Gau will return to the party. If he does, check the Rage box. This allows you to easily remember what Rages you can learn from a given Encounter even if you might otherwise forget what you were fighting.
