Don't let the diminutive size of the GATOR fool you—they get two very powerful attacks, and don't fall easily. You won't need a lot of level 3 black magic in Gurgu Volcano, so don't hesitate to soften these guys up with LIT2 if you run into them early in the game. BANE and LIT3 are even more effective. Fortunately you will see them only rarely in the South Rivers. Later, in the North Rivers, they are a bit more manageable, but still dangerous.

Encountered In
White Crocs are nasty when you've earned an airship and meet them in northern rivers. Fighting them in southern rivers as well is downright deadly. They have a ton of HP, though not great Defense or Evasion, and they get two hits that can deal upwards of 75 damage each. Like most multi-hit Monsters, they can do a number on lightly-armored characters, but they're powerful enough to deal significant damage even to Warriors. They are weak against Lightning, but have such high Magic Defense that Lightning Spells won't do all that much to them.
