The battle with Ultros is heavily scripted, which can make it dangerous. His Tentacle attack is devastating, and when combined with his normal routine he can easily kill a party member. He'll specifically target each character (except Edgar) at some point. His special attack, Ink, deals damage as well as inflicting the irrelevant Dark status. He'll use Ink as a counterattack against Fire abilities.

Your second fight with Ultros is even more heavily scripted than the first. While he has a measly 2,550 HP, you're actually fighting four "versions" of Ultros here. You need to deal all that damage to a single version. Exploiting his weaknesses to Fire and Thunder will help in that regard.

Ultros will use Safe and Haste on himself after you've dealt out 6,640 damage, and his "tri-elemental" attack causes him to counter the basic three elements with tier-3 attack spells. When Relm joins the fight, have her Sketch him to end it.

Ultros has no real tricks this time, except to summon Chupon once he's lost 4,200 HP. Note that this version of Ultros is vulnerable to Fire and Poison, but not Thunder.
