Maria is an interesting character. She begins with a high intelligence, making her a good choice as a black mage, but she also starts with a Bow, which is a terrible mage weapon. Trade it in for something a bit better and go to town with spells to make the most of her abilities. Just watch her low HP and stamina scores.
