Darkness not only reduces Monsters' chance to hit, it also increases your chance to hit them. In both cases, the difference is 20%, so don't expect this Spell to negate all damage dealt by the affected Monsters. It's often a good opener when fighting large groups. SLOW is usually a better Spell to use against groups of Monsters with multiple attacks, since it is 20% more accurate than DARK. Be aware that many Monsters resist Status-elemental Spells (including both DARK and SLOW).

BLND is another "power word" Spell like STUN, meaning that it works only on Monsters with less than 300 current HP who don't resist Status. The upshot of BLND is that it won't wear off, but at the same time, the effects are very minimal for a 7th-level Spell slot. If you have money to burn, it's not the worst level 7 black magic Spell, but it's far from necessary.

You will be Poisoned quite a lot in the first half of the game, but this Spell is still of questionable use. It's nice for Wh.MAGES, since their level 4 Spell selection is pretty thin, but you could buy 53 PURE Potions for the price of this Spell, and anyone can use those. You may as well pick it up when you're rich, but don't make it a priority.

Of the Spells that actually work, AMUT is the least useful. It doesn't create a resistance to Silence like you might expect, but rather cures it. However, you can't cast it if you are Silenced yourself, which makes its use questionable enough (especially since MUTE hits all targets). Add to that that only four Monsters in the entire game cast MUTE, and this Spell becomes even more iffy. With a price tag of 4,000 G, it's just insulting.

SOFT Potions are expensive, but you can buy 25 of them for the cost of learning the SOFT Spell. Only learn SOFT if you are willing to wait for the White Robe to gain use of the INV2 Spell.

There is nothing more annoying than having your main fighters afflicted with Darkness, and Lamp is the only way to cure them of it. Even so, the Spell is of questionable merit. Darkness wears off after combat anyway, and nothing actually inflicts it for a long while after this Spell becomes available. You can live without it, but it does help every now and then.
