Darkness not only reduces Monsters' chance to hit, it also increases your chance to hit them. Still, it's only a 20% swing, so don't expect this Spell to negate all damage unless you use it on already-inaccurate Monsters. It's a good opener when fighting large groups, or Monsters who make a lot of attacks. The only downside is that many Monsters resist Status-elemental Spells, including Fog.
If you're a veteran of the series, you may expect this Spell to cure all Status Ailments. Don't be fooled—in this game, Esuna only cures Poison. You will be poisoned quite a lot in the first half of the game, but this Spell is of questionable use. It's nice for White Mages, since their level 4 Spell selection is pretty thin, but you could buy 53 Antidotes for the price of this Spell, and anyone can use those. You may as well pick it up when you're rich, but don't make it a priority.
Ladies and gentlemen, the most useless Spell in the game! Vox cures Mute, but you can't cast it if you are Muted yourself, which is questionable enough right there (especially since Silence hits all targets). Add to that that only four Monsters in the entire game cast Silence, and this Spell becomes even more iffy. With a price tag of 4,000 gil, it's just insulting.

Gold Needles are expensive, but you can buy 25 of them for the cost of learning Stona. It may not be strictly worth it, especially in a level with good party buffs, but it does promote long-term stinginess. Your White Wizard can get away with not learning Invis2 anyway, due to the White Robe, so it won't hurt to learn Stona.

Darkness is an annoying Status Ailment, and LAMP is the only way to cure it short of CUR4. However, it may not be worth the level 2 Spell slot, especially considering the other level 2 white magic Spells that are available. You won't encounter Darkness until the Marsh Cave, and it will wear off at the end of combat, so don't feel obligated to learn LAMP.
