The Gold Needle cures characters of Stone, a nasty Status Ailment that you will thankfully only see rarely. Even if you have a White Mage with Stona, you should have a few of these around. After all, there won't be anyone to heal a Stone White Mage. Gold Needles are expensive, but you won't run into Stone until you fight Cockatrices deep in the Terra Cavern, so you can hold off for a while. Just remember that you need to stock up before heading to Melmond, as that town has no Item Shop.

Gold Needles are a very useful Item that cures Stone status. It takes at least Esuna 5 to do the same, and Stone is definitely a status you want to heal, so keep one or two of these around if you're liable to be petrified. Note that Gold Needles are useless in combat, since a Character can only use Items on themselves, and Stone Characters don't get to use Items at all.
