The Timber Region is the second region you'll have access to, after the events in Timber early in the game. There are a number of Draw points and other points of interest here, such as Obel Lake. Head north to reach the Dollet Region, or west to the Galbadia Region.
Obel Lake is the center of a series of side tasks that you can complete throughout the game. However, you won't actually get any rewards from these tasks until you have the Ragnarok, so there is no rush.
To get things started, try humming a few times until a shadowy figure talks to you. He will ask you to find Mr. Monkey, and give you a few hints as to where he might be found—in a forest near Dollet.
Mr. Monkey isn't helpful at first, but once you find him, the creature at Obel Lake will give a series of hints.
• Take a break at the railroad bridge.: Presumably this is a hint that there is a Draw point at the railroad bridge near East Academy Station
• At the beach in Balamb, something special washes ashore at times.: This is a hint to the location of one of four special rocks you can find. You'll find several ordinary rocks before finding the real one on the beach.
• You'll find something on an island east of Timber, too.: This is referring to another rock on the island near the east side of the rail bridge to Esthar. You can't reach this one on foot, but you can hop to the island with mobile Balamb Garden.
• Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula.: This is a hint about what you'll find at Eldbeak Peninsula, in the Trabia Region.
• There's also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern. This is a hint to another of the four special rocks, but you'll need the Ragnarok to claim it.
• Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think... You'll see this hint after you bring back at least one rock. Practice your rock-throwing skills by skipping rocks on Obel Lake until one skips "many many times." Then, find Mr. Monkey in his original location and throw rocks at him until he throws a special rock back at you.
• Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone lived a happy life there. This is a hint to find an interesting area near Edea's House, but there is no reward involved.
Once you have all four rocks, return to Obel Lake and the creature will put them together. To read the message, start at the top right and read top-to-bottom, then right-to-left. This tells you "Mordred Plains has treasure," so head for Mordred Plains (between Trabia and Esthar).
