Druids are the most overrated Type in Ultima III. The bonus to MP regeneration rate seems much more significant than it is in practice, for a number of reasons. First, their max MP is so low that a Wizard or Cleric is still going to get off more Spells in a dungeon environment. Second, while their max MP is determined by the greater of their Int and Wis, their regeneration is determined by the lesser of the two, making them very expensive to properly advance.
Specifically, you'll only regenerate 2 MP if your MP total is less than half of your lesser Stat. (In effect, Druids regenerate MP for both Int and Wis at the same time.) Regardless of Race, you cannot have increased MP regeneration past 37 MP.
Now, the upside of a Druid is that they get both Cleric and Wizard Spells. Unfortunately, of the 16 Spells available to a typical Druid, 3 are duplicates of Spells the other class has. Not only that, but none of the Wizard Spells aside from the redundant ones are very exciting—a Cleric's Spell selection is basically strictly superior.
Still, if you like to spam low-level Spells, a Druid can be quite effective. And unlike most spellcasters with terrible gear selections, they will be able to Cast again fairly quickly after running out of MP.
