In my experience, dungeon floors are generated such that you can always access all areas, often via secret doors, so Blink doesn't seem to be required for any reason. It can be useful to escape from enemy pursuit, though you could always end up in an even more dangerous situation.

Blink is the least useful Spell in the game. It teleports you to a random spot in the dungeon, but it will fail unless the randomly chosen spot happens to be open. If it does succeed, you probably won't know where you are anyway. You can't make it to hidden treasure rooms either, because the Spell won't teleport you on top of treasure. To top it all off, this is an expensive Spell. What's the upside?
