Cleric

Key 2
Stat Bonus Wisdom +10
Ability Able to cast general and cleric spells
The two Magic-using classes are interesting, because Magic only works in dungeons and towers, and strictly speaking you don't ever have to Enter dungeons or towers to beat the game. That said, they can be an excellent source of treasure, and Clerics are the absolute best class for delving dungeons. The only real downside to Clerics is that their bonus Stat is apparently useless.

Aside from the basic utility Spells, Clerics have two more dungeon-specific Spells of no small power: Passwall lets you just remove walls willy-nilly which, if you have a map, can make short work of a lot of dungeon levels. The Surface Spell is very nice as well, taking you from the Tri-Lithium on level 15 all the way to the dungeon exit immediately. Even using Down Ladder in a tower would cost you more than doing that.

Prayer is an interesting Spell since it will kill any opponent, but its hit rate is totally unpredictable. It's cheaper than a Wizard's attack Spells, though, and arguably the best offensive Spell in the game for that reason.

Clerics aren't terribly flashy, but they're good at what they do. They have exclusive access to resurrection Spells, making them very useful to have in the party. They can even use halfway decent Armour, although in the long run they'll use Exotic Armour like everyone else. Their Weapon selection is poor, but they aren't totally vulnerable in combat.

Bobbits make the best Clerics because they can have such a huge MP total, and at the cost of only Dex. If you want to focus on combat, Dwarves are your best bet. Just don't make en Elf Cleric.
