Return to South Figaro

When the Crimson Robbers disembark in South Figaro, you can freely follow them. Note that you can now hire ferries back and forth between South Figaro and Nikeah at any time. If you need to return anywhere on the southern continent quickly and safely, you can take advantage of the Chocobo Stable in the northern part of town.

Shops

The Armor Shop in South Figaro has similar wares to the one in Nikeah, with one important new piece: the DiamondArmor. This is the heavy variant of the Diamond Vest, and is the most effective Armor Celes can wear at the moment. It costs 15,000 GP, but it's worth it. The Weapon Shop is focused on selling spears, including the new Gold Lance. This is a large Bat.Pwr boost for Edgar, though the benefits of an Enhancer are likely better for him.

There are no new Relics available in the Relic Shop, though South Figaro is the only place in the World of Ruin where you can purchase several of them. The RunningShoes are one such Relic. If you want to make your life easier in the future, invest in enough Amulets to give your entire party protection from Zombie. There is also an Item Shop here if you need to restock on supplies.

Exploring South Figaro

Several Treasures in South Figaro have changed between the World of Balance and the World of Ruin. If you skipped any of these treasures, you can collect them now to get the updated versions. Depending on what you took earlier, you can find two Tents, a Revivify, an Elixir, a Remedy, an X-Potion, and a Fenix Down in Town. None of the Treasures in the various buildings and basements have changed. Even the Encounters in the Basements are unchanged—you can still fight Vector Pups and Commanders if you're so inclined.

Speak to the townsfolk of South Figaro to learn a bit about the world. Duncan's wife tells you that Duncan is still alive, meditating just north of Narshe. Sabin would surely like to visit, given the chance. One of the kids in the Mansion has a new rhyme, to "jump on the turtle."

You'll find Gerad in the eastern room in the Inn. He'll leave town when you talk to him. He and the Crimson Robbers have headed towards the South Figaro Cave to the southwest. Upgrade your equipment, then follow them. You could rent a chocobo for the journey, but it's not a very long walk.

The South Figaro Area

All new enemies await you outside town. The oddest of them are Nohrabbits, which you'll find in every terrain except the desert. They make basic attacks and seem like a normal enemy at first, but will respond to Fight (which will almost certainly kill them) by casting Cure, Cure 2, or Remedy on a party member. Grassy plains areas are filled with nothing but Nohrabbits, making them very safe for travel.

On the wastelands, the Nohrabbits will be accompanied by Maligas. These crab-like creatures are vulnerable to Ice, Thunder, and Water and only have 952 HP. If they are the last remaining Monster, they can start making double attacks with their Scissors special. It's usually best to take them out early.

Every Encounter in the forests will be against a Latimeria, sometimes accompanied by a trio of Nohrabbits. They look like sea creatures and are vulnerable to Thunder, but they attack primarily with the Earth-based Magnitude8. This is a fairly powerful attack, so a quick shot of Bolt 2 or an equivalent attack may be in order.

Sand Horses, which populate the deserts along with Maligas, can use Sand Storm on any turn and their quintuple-damage Clamp special on every other turn. If they're the last remaining Monster, they'll stop using Sand Storm in favor of basic attacks, but have a chance of using Clamp each turn. If you're unlucky, they can be dangerous no matter what order you defeat them in. Fortunately, they are weak to both Ice and Water and have just over 1,000 HP, so you should be fully capable of defeating them quickly. The good news is, you'd need to go well out of your way to reach a desert at this point anyway.
