Because Esuna is a fourth-level spell, you'll always want to have a decent supply of Antidotes on hand. For 75 gil, they are expensive early in the game, but once you have a bunch of them you probably won't need to buy more. You will definitely regret not having Antidotes, though, since Poison does 5% of your max HP in damage every turn in combat, and drains HP while walking around as well. It's not fun stuff.

Antidotes heal the permanent status ailment Poison both during and outside of battle. Because they need to be equipped to be used during battle, Antidotes tend to be used afterwards. Esuna 1 can also heal Poison outside of battle, so you usually won't need a large stock of Antidotes. They sell for 100 gil apiece and are dropped by several early game monsters, and can be a decent source of extra gil as a result.
