The Opal Shield, like the Opal Armor, offers resistance to Lightning. Like the rest of the Opal equipment, though, it is only usable by KNIGHTS, meaning NINJAS can't gain Lightning resistance without a Ribbon. The Opal Shield is a 4 Absorb upgrade over the Flame and Ice Shields, but you may still want to use them to gain resistance to Fire or Cold in certain Areas.

The Diamond Shield is likely the last of the four elemental shields you'll find, unless an Adamantoise drops one earlier in the game. This one resists Lightning, which is pretty useful in the Leviathan and the Mysidian Tower.
