Surprisingly enough, the Wh.MAGE's best starting Weapon is just as powerful as the Rapier that the actual fighting Classes use. It lacks the Rapier's Hit Rate bonus, however. Don't be fooled into thinking your Wh.MAGE won't suck in combat for the rest of the game, though—he will. But he can at least hold his weight at the beginning of the game.

Don't be fooled into thinking your White Mage won't suck in combat for the whole game, though—he/she will. But at least they can do decent damage at the beginning of the game.
