KO is a status that can be inflicted in two ways. Some Spells, Abilities, or Monster attacks can inflict KO, and being reduced to 0 HP does the same. There are a number of ways to restore a Character to life, though KO'd Monsters are gone for good. The most obvious way is with the Life Spell or Phoenix Down Item, or a sanctuary in town. You can also restore a KO'd target to life with 1 HP with Esuna 6 outside of combat, or 7 inside of combat. Unfortunately, you can't restore multiple Characters to life during combat, because multi-target Spells do not actually hit KO'd Characters. You'll need to bring them back one at a time. This restriction does not apply outside of combat.
